The Professional Disc Golf Association, or PDGA was created by Steady Ed Headrick in the summer of 1976. Since then, the PDGA has spread across the world to over 50 different countries. It’s becoming more and more popular, so we figured that we should share more information about it.
The PDGA is the leading authority on scoring, rule sets, and course procedures. The PDGA also hosts many events, and tournaments. We will get you up to speed on everything the PDGA has to offer, plus how you can obtain a PGDA membership!
The PDGA hosts many events for Disc Golf enthusiasts. A quick look at the events page on PDGA’s official website shows events occur on an almost daily basis.
Each event listed is split up into a few categories. Those categories are as followed:
The most important fields in the event category to pay attention to are Status, Class, and Tier.
Status provides users with the results of the tournament. By clicking on the gold or silver icon, visitors can see the competitors who competed at the event as well as their par and who actually one the event. Scores are given on an unofficial and official basis. Paying attention to status will help hopeful competitors take a look at the par of their competition.
The Class field will let visitors know whether or not the event is for pros, amateurs, or a combination of both. You don’t want to show up to a PDGA event only to find that you are unable to play because of your classification. This section is a must look at for hopeful competitors.
The Tier field will let hopefuls know whether or not they need to have membership in order to attend the event. The PDGA is split into multiple event levels and tiers. The top level events such as PDGA Majors and A-tier events require a PDGA membership to participate.
PGDA Tournaments are held quite frequently in a number of different countries. The 2018 popular world championships happening this year are as follows:
- PDGA Junior Disc Golf World Championships Jul 10 -14
- PDGA Amateur Disc Golf World Championships Jul 21 – 28
- PDGA Masters Disc Golf World Championships Aug 11 – 18
- PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships Sep 3 – 8
The PDGA website provides a wealth of information on how to register for tournaments and the specific rules and regulations. For example, there is a dress code that attendees need to be aware of the PDGA tournaments.
For most tournaments and events, there are commentators who perform live scoring. If you can’t make it to a PDGA event you could listen in via live scoring at PDGAlive.com. Now is a better time than ever to check out the site as they have updated how they conduct live scoring. You will now hear hole by hole accounts of what happens
